Thanks to the generosity and determination of the Hornery Family, cancer patients from the Caboolture area can now access free transport to receive treatment at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH).
The specially fitted-out shuttle bus, donated by the family of Lachlan Hornery, a former RBWH cancer patient from the Bowen Basin who sadly passed away in 2008, has been described as a ‘lifeline’ for patients.
For Lachlan’s brother, Quentin ‘Que’ Hornery, helping others is a fitting tribute to a beloved father of five, taken too soon.
“Lachy was just a true family man. He always gave to others to make sure they felt comfortable. So now, we support cancer care families and the RBWH family,” said Que.
“We’ve started the bus in Caboolture and then we’ll transition into surrounding areas, to get people to RBWH as conveniently and as independently as possible.”
Since establishing the 4ULOC Foundation to honour Lachy’s memory, the family has worked tirelessly to ease the financial and emotional burdens faced by many cancer care families, funding medical equipment, comfort items and the renovation of patient areas at RBWH.
“It’s about other people – which is what Lachy would have wanted,” said Que.
“It’s still tough at times, but we look around us and do as much as we can for people, to try to find some positives.”
