New grants helping Close the Gap in healthcare

17 Feb 2026

The RBWH Foundation has strengthened its contribution to Closing the Gap, launching new grants to foster and support emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health innovators and researchers across the Herston Health Precinct.

RBWH Foundation CEO Simone Garske said the grants offered an exciting opportunity to work hand-in-hand with members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to identify and develop new ideas in healthcare which increase access to services, develop culturally safe models of care and eliminate racial discrimination.

“The RBWH Foundation is proud to partner with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues to build the capacity of passionate staff members working hard to improve community outcomes, now and into the future,” said Ms Garske.

“We’ve seen the impact achieved by previous grant recipients and we’re excited to now directly support our new change makers as they bring their ideas to life.”

Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) Director of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Roslyn Boland, helped co-design the new grant scheme.

“With our staff having grass roots understanding of the needs of patients and community, these grants will ensure quality and timely research to improve better outcomes,” said Ms Boland.

Applications open from 1 March to 2 April 2026. Interested staff are encouraged to attend an information session at the RBWH Foundation Office on 11 March. For more information, click here.
