Acclaimed Brisbane artist and designer Christine Moody, whose signature hand-drawn visual maps are commissioned and snapped up by collectors across the globe, has poured her gratitude into art for a cause, with the release of a limited-edition gift range raising funds for the hospital that saved her life.
To mark the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) Foundation’s 40th anniversary, Christine created ‘40 Years Strong’ - a vibrant artwork celebrating RBWH’s legacy of care, innovation and community.
“Giving back to the RBWH for the incredible expertise which preserved my quality of life, means paying it forward with this very personal project,” said Christine.
“You can't get better than the specialists I've got. It's the best hospital and I don’t think people always realise that.”
The highly collectible design is available in a gift range including umbrella, tea towel, coffee cup and prints. Ideal for Christmas, the range is available from the RBWH Foundation office, on the RBWH Ground Floor. Christine will also appear at the RBWH Foundation Christmas stall on Tuesday 2 December and Wednesday 3 December from 10 am to 11 am.

“This stunning range offers patients the greatest gift of all: the gift of time for research and innovation that can save and improve lives,” said RBWH Foundation CEO Simone Garske.
In 2019, Christine relied on RBWH research and innovation when she became bed-ridden with extreme muscle weakness and fatigue. She was diagnosed with the rare inflammatory autoimmune disorder dermatomyositis and now attends RBWH for six-weekly infusions of immunosuppressive drugs - and will do for the rest of her life.
“Some people may only live about five years after diagnosis, but it could be 10 years, could be 20 years, and I feel like the doctors are on the same journey with me,” said Christine.
Christine returned to drawing during recuperation and spent countless hours researching, sketching and painting the intricate ‘40 Years Strong’ showpiece, which sold at auction for $4,500 at the Foundation’s Ruby Gala Ball in August.
Her love of drawing was also shared with hospital staff through a ‘Draw Your World’ workshop, part of the Foundation’s ‘40 Moments of Joy’ program.
“Christine’s incredible talent goes beyond art, her works preserve stories and memories for future generations,” said Simone Garske.
“There would be few families in Queensland without a connection to the RBWH, making this print a unique Christmas gift.”
