Just a Little Bit Further - farmer’s epic tribute to late wife
After more than 3000 kms on the road, across three states, Queensland farmer Dave Batterham ended an extraordinary journey of love, loss and determination at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH).
In a remarkable tribute to his wife, Judi, who passed away from neuroendocrine cancer in November 2024, Dave cycled from Adelaide to Toowoomba before running Just a Little Bit Further on the final leg to Brisbane - with a wheelbarrow.
Throughout his month-long marathon, Dave raised awareness and funds for three organisations close to the couple’s hearts: the RBWH Foundation, Toowoomba Hospital Foundation and NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia.
RBWH staff, patients and enthusiastic supporters fired up the BBQ at the finishing line in his honour, and in memory of former patient, Judi.

“Dave has taken his grief and his love for Judi and turned it into something incredible – a journey that will help many other families facing serious illness,” Wendy said.
Of more than 600,000 patients who put their trust in RBWH each year, one in five live far from Metropolitan Brisbane but are brought here to receive the best care Queensland has to offer.
“We all have a stake in the health system because, at some stage, we’ll all need it. Whether that’s for ourselves, our partner, our children, our parents, or someone else we love,” Ms Taylor said.
“The good news is, we can all make a difference – by donating to support research, to fund innovation, or to make expert care more accessible in regional and rural areas.
“Whether you’re cycling thousands of miles, or backing the people doing it, you’re making healthcare better and more equitable for the next person who needs it. For Dave’s beloved wife Judi, there could be no greater tribute.”
