Reducing anxiety: buggy transport to ease access from carpark to hospital entry

Project description

Introducing a patient buggy service to support seamless access from carparks to hospital entrances.

Why this work is needed

Navigating a large hospital campus can be daunting, especially for those with limited mobility, dynamic disabilities or cognitive challenges.

This initiative directly responds to consumer feedback and aims to reduce the anxiety and physical strain associated with hospital access. By offering a safe, reliable and inclusive transport option, the project team will promote more positive patient experiences and encourage timely engagement with care.

Importantly, this service benefits everyone - no patient arrives at hospital completely well and ease of access is a foundational part of compassionate, patient-centred care.

Expected outcomes

This project reinforces the RBWH commitment to holistic care that not just treats medical needs, but also supports emotional and practical need.

It is anticipated that outcomes will include improved patient experiences and overall wellbeing, minimising anxiety in patients and their families in getting to and from the large hospital campus to the carpark. There are also environmental and operational benefits as using electric buggies are a sustainable option and reduce foot traffic in a busy carpark.
