In Memory of Edward Lemalama

In Loving Memory of Edward Lemalama

There are some people who leave footprints on this world that can never be washed away. My husband, Ed, was one of those people. He wasn’t just my husband—he was my best friend, my greatest supporter, my safe place, and the love of my life. He was the kind of man who put everyone else before himself, loved without conditions, and made people feel seen, valued, and welcome. Whether you were family, a friend, or someone he’d only just met, Ed had a way of making you feel like you belonged. He was an incredible father whose children were always his greatest priority. He loved fiercely, gave selflessly, and would do absolutely anything for the people he cared about. His strength wasn’t measured by what he could lift or achieve, but by the kindness he showed, the loyalty he gave, and the love he poured into everyone around him. Our world changed forever when Ed underwent surgery to remove a massive pituitary brain tumour. During the operation, a catastrophic brain bleed took him from us far too soon. The day he left us, a part of my heart left with him. Even throughout his time in hospital, Ed’s character never changed. Despite everything he was enduring, he never once asked, “Why me?” He never allowed his circumstances to define him. Instead, he met each day with courage, grace, and an unwavering love for the people around him. Even while fighting the biggest battle of his life, he continued to encourage us, support us, comfort us, and make us smile. His concern was never for himself—it was always for us. His strength wasn’t found in the absence of fear or pain, but in the way he chose love over self-pity, every single day. That was Ed. Selfless, courageous, and thinking of others until his very last days. The grief of losing him is something I carry every single day, but so is the privilege of having loved a man as extraordinary as Ed. I would choose him over and over again. This fundraiser has been created not only to honour his memory but to ensure that his legacy continues to make a difference. We are raising funds in his name and taking part in the Bridge to Brisbane because every step we take is for him. It’s our way of turning heartbreak into hope, and love into something that can continue helping others. Ed taught us that a life isn’t measured by how long we have, but by how deeply we love, how generously we give, and how we make others feel. His time with us was far too short, but the impact he had will last forever. If his story inspires even one more act of kindness, one more person to keep going, or one more family to feel supported, then his legacy continues exactly as he would have wanted. If you leave this page knowing a little more about the man Ed was, then we’ve already honoured him. If you’re able to donate, you’ll be helping ensure that the kindness, strength, and love he shared so freely continues to touch the lives of others for years to come. Thank you for walking beside us, for remembering the remarkable man we were blessed to love, and for helping us carry his legacy forward—one step, one donation, and one act of kindness at a time. Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our Ed.
