FUSE Vascular Access (Non RBWH Staff)


The Focused Ultrasound Simulator Education (FUSE) Vascular Access course offers training in venous and arterial cannulation to increase success and reduce the risk of complications by guidance with ultrasound. The course covers ultrasound-guided cannulation of central and peripheral veins (internal jugular, subclavian, femoral, PICC) and arteries (femoral, brachial and radial). The course provides a good knowledge-base reinforced with learning practical skills with realistic Blue Phantom ultrasound simulators.

Workshops are conducted in the newly developed Centre for Excellence and Innovation in Anaesthesia located within the Department of Anaesthesia at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. This course is CME accredited with ACEM, CICM and ANZCA.



The FUSE Vascular access course comprises of five components:

1. Four eLearning tutorials

2. Three hour hands on workshop

3. Four post-workshop self-directed simulator case studies

4. Assessment and Completion

5. Optional logbook – 30 cases

Program cost incorporates access to all online materials, workshop, self-directed simulator case studies, and certificate on completion.
