Million Metres for Melanoma is a group of extraordinary men who are aiming to run a million metres from the 16 October to the 19 October on a treadmill in the main foyer of the RBWH. They are also aiming to raise $250,000 in the memory of Pheobe Eales who lost her battle with melanoma in 2014. All funds raised will assist in establishing a melanoma unit at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Sadly many families lose their precious babies during pregnancy and shortly after birth. Although the statistics on infant death have improved significantly over the past 100 years, pregnancy and infant loss is still prevalent in our society with 1 in 4 confirmed pregnancies ending in miscarriage before 20 weeks and 1 in 120 births resulting in stillbirth or a newborn death.

The Royal Run for Research is over again for another year. A huge thanks to all the runners and walkers who joined us at Kurilpa Point Park on Sunday 7 October to tackle either the 8km or 6km course to help raise funds for medical research conducted at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. Thanks also goes to RBWH's Physiotherapy who have been running this event for the past 30 years!

Applications are now closed for RBWH Foundation's 2019 Susan Suduk OneDay to Conquer Cancer Diamond Care Grants (closed 15 April 2019).
The grants are open to all disciplines including Medical, Nursing, Allied Health and Health Practitioners as long as the CIA (or person responsible for the project) holds Queensland salaried or formal honorary appointment to RBWH.
Applications must support RBWH's vision of providing the Diamond Standard of Cancer Care to its patients with grants of up to $40,000 available for research, people support, equipment and infrastructure.

2019 RBWH & RBWH Foundation Research Postgraduate Scholarships
Applications are now open for the 2019 Postgraduate Scholarships (opened 16 April 2018). Applications close on 29 June 2018.
The scholarships are for medical, nursing, allied health, health practitioner and other graduates working at RBWH and who are wishing to undertake a research higher degree.
A number of research scholarships are supported each year. The scholarships are based on merit and are awarded on a competitive basis.

Former contortionist and contestant on Australia’s Got Talent Jodie Hollis-Tobin knows the limits of her body, but the recent premature birth of her son certainly put her lithe frame to the test.

A photo wall in the corridors of the RBWH’s Neonatal Unit features the little graduates who had a tough start to life. The photos are a reminder for staff of the important role they play in the lives of premature babies and their families.

Daphne Griffith was recently awarded an Order of Australia Medal in recognition of her work as a volunteer not only with the Royal but also with the Red Cross and St John’s Ambulance.
Daphne has been volunteering at RBWH for 35 years. She first started in 1979 as a Cherry Lady with the RBWH Auxiliary. Since then she has held many positions throughout the hospital, most recently helping with various administration duties in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department, as well as Physiotherapy.
