It is the role of RBWH Foundation to raise money to support of the main research centres at RBWH. Without medical research there would no advancement in patient care and treatment, no cure for the diseases that plague our society, life expectancy would be shorter and our quality of life would be poorer.
The hospital is home to a number of major research centres including:
- The Perinatal Research Centre
- The Burns, Trauma and Critical Care Research Centre
- The Neurology Research Centre
Apart from the ongoing funding provided to the five major research centres, the RBWH Foundation also issues grants to new and developing research projects undertaken at the hospital. This clinical research covers a broad range of life-threatening diseases, medical conditions and methods of patient care including:
- Most forms of cancer
- Heart disease
- Vascular disease
- Infectious diseases
- Liver disease
- Motor Neurone Disease
- Mental health
- Multidisciplinary aged and acute care
- Pain management
- Nutrition
- ......and the list goes on.
The aim of research is to find better treatments, methods of prevention and cures for these conditions. Research, however, takes time and money and it can't be done without the generous support of individuals, community groups and businesses.
